-57 miles to midtown New York
-76 miles to Philadelphia
But more pertinent, perhaps...the "greater NY region" so to speak is just "bigger" than a lot of other towns.....plenty of people commute daily in to NY from Asbury and from places a lot further out than Asbury...

Yo La Tengo, the Feelies, Fountains of Wayne, the Smithereens and probably a thousand other bands are greater than (Twisted Sister^1000)
Do any geezers here remember when Twisted Sister was the weekly cover band (for years) at Art Stock's Royal Manor North on Route 1?
Comment by Mr. In Between on August 23, 2011 at 6:21pm In my humble opinion it has to be The Velvet Underground. I heard this once so I'll paraphrase... "They didn't sell that many records but the people who bought their records all formed bands of their own who wound up selling millions of records"
or something to that effect!

From a hard rock/metal perspective, I'd pick KISS over Twisted Sister.
And hon. mention to Richard Hell who had a profound impact on the look and style of punk. It's well known that the brits copied his hair, his clothing and his penchant for holding his clothes together with safety pins.
