PUNK ISLAND 2011 PREVIEW!

Governor's Island in NYCwill turn into Punk Island for 1 day, this Sunday! There will be 8 stages, simultaneous punk music from 11am-5pm.

A lot of people have commented that they haven't heard of many of the bands--pretty common for a punk show--so I've put tog.ether the Youtube videos I could find. So far I have gotten through Stages 1-4. I will try to get as many as I can before Sunday.

If you would like to see who's playing, visit…

How John Lennon led to my life of violence.

Just kidding. But mom, dad and I did go to the funeral or memorial service in Strawberry Fields. It was a sea of people. And of course something happened...

Rock and Roll Tribe Plug, Rock and Roll Mayor Call to Arms.

The discussion about whether there is any cool in New York anymore got me to thinking...which got me to blogging. Rock and rollers are at the curious crossroads of being both establishment and anti-establishment. I think we can just steamroll our own road, in the direction we want. Full speed ahead.

A day late and a dollar short

Here's what I should have posted a day late for Halloween...

And I WAS a dollar short for a beer and a shot special at The Bowery Electric to see The Waldos (Walter Lurie from Johnny Thunders and The Heartbreakers Band)and the Dirty Shames. Thank God Danny Ray was there to save the day!

Here are the Dirty Shames...somewhere… Continue

GWAR--Halloween whenever you want.

I've never seen GWAR in person. One of my best friends and pop culture Ronin, Steve Bunche is a huge fan. For years I have heard him describe their incredible shows something like this:

It was incredible, man! These guys in monster suits playing heavy metal, singing, and spewing fake blood into…

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
