So, I Went to See Mini-Kiss....

Brought the family up into the foothills to the spectacular Mishewaka Amphitheater to see the world's #1 little person tribute to Kiss, Mini-Kiss.

It was every bit as absurd, silly and wonderfully fun as I hoped. Now, if you go expecting blazing versions of your fave Kiss tunes played expertly, you're in the wrong place. But if you want to smile, pump your fist and enjoy something truly nuts (in a good way) you're gonna… Continue

IPO....is it time to call it a Day?

Bruce is calling it quits with Not Lame.......understandable in todays "music for free" world....but sad non the less. One feels it would be nice if the site could continue in some way. And while I bemoan the loss of Not Lame I can't help but wonder if isn't time for David Bash to do the same with International Pop Overthrow. Years ago with Poptopia and then with IPO it was a thrill to fly to LA to check out the bands..(.and as the cities expanded..so too did the opportunities to see cool…

Some of you may not know of Bleu, the artist but if yr a fan of 'power pop', he's one of the modern-day star guys. Really solid body of work the last 10 years, an amazing ELO-inspired project called L.E.O. a few years ago and a penchant for resonating with… Continue

Back from the abyss...

What song(s) can you always count on to reel you back in? I sometimes think of music as a well I need a drink from, particularly when I need some kind of renewal.

Here's a few that always seem to bring me back from the abyss:

Pearl Jam-"In Hiding", "Alive"

The Who-entire "Who's Next" album

Miles Davis-"All Blues"

Elvis Costello-"P,L,&U", "Tiny Steps", "New Amsterdam"

Bruce Springsteen-"entire "Born to Run" album

U2-"I Still…

Jeff Buckley Was Just Insanely Gifted

I remember at a Jeff Buckley show, after this song, "Grace", me and my friend looked at each other in a way like I've since described "as if we just saw a UFO".

PS The vocal fireworks come at the end. The performance we saw was more ferocious if you can believe… Continue

Thars Gold in Them Thar Hills or the Ones That Got Away

When I posted the first entry in the Alt Country group I hoped that our discussions would throw up little known discoveries that we'd like to share with our fellow members. The post somehow got lost in the shuffle and as this site is new I thought OK then I'll place as a blog post so maybe it'll get a better airing.

In that post I mentioned a band from 1970 and Mexico that had slipped my aged grey cells, but luckily a few days later they…

Mike Viola Interview on The Time Machine

Singer-songwriter Mike Viola was a guest on The Time Machine last week. Mike's music has long been on our playlists since the nineties. From his own Candy Butchers to film soundtrack work on "That Thing You Do!" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" to his involvement with L.E.O. and The Major Labels, Viola has continued to win our audience over… Continue

Tribalism, reality, and genre-hopping

I didn't think I needed another social networking site. You guys proved me wrong. Thank you.

I should probably preface this by saying that I'm definitely well in the realm of post-modern Music fan. . . actually, full-on junkie. I earned a Bachelor's of Music Ed. quite a few moons ago, and play in one rock band, and about five other Classical outfits of various stripes.

Through college, I also did my stints at the radio station. Nine Inch Nails,…
