Joy Valencia Interview on The Time Machine

Singer-songwriter Joy Valencia was a recent guest on The Time Machine. Joy was wonderful enough to let us play her music on the Maui airwaves the past year while she is busy completing her first album with what she refers to as the juicy flavors of late-1960s psychedelic pop and a twist of cabaret. The Time Machine's radio host Michael McCartney… Continue

PUNK ISLAND 2011 PREVIEW!

Governor's Island in NYCwill turn into Punk Island for 1 day, this Sunday! There will be 8 stages, simultaneous punk music from 11am-5pm.

A lot of people have commented that they haven't heard of many of the bands--pretty common for a punk show--so I've put tog.ether the Youtube videos I could find. So far I have gotten through Stages 1-4. I will try to get as many as I can before Sunday.

If you would like to see who's playing, visit…

rolling stones-exile on main street

This wasn't bad, I saw this on Netflix, on my instant section. A lot has been said about making of  "Exile on Main Street"  possibly there finest album. The period of 1969 to 1975 with Mick Taylor is perhaps there greatest period of all time where the stones sounded like a real serious hard rock band and at times, explored the boundaries of traditional blues and heavy metal.

During this period of the recording and making of  " Exile on Mian Strret"  the stones were…

The Kids Are Alright

We have two boys - 5 & 3 - Noel & Lennon (can you guess what kind of music we dig?).  They are being raised in a very musical household - drums in the basement, Beatles usually playing, books and books and books about music, etc.  We're not music nazis with them, but we just don't play crap in our house.  My kids don't even know who The Wiggles are.  Seriously.  It just so happens that The Beatles and The Beach Boys make music that kids seem to instantly love (thank you, God).  I…

When Worlds Collide.

A few days ago I arrived back in Brooklyn after two weeks in England, a trip taken to meet several of the musicians who have become a daily part of my life, several for many years now.  Some I had met on MySpace years ago, some on Rock and Roll Tribe and others in the chatroom at Scrub Radio.  We all have Scrub Radio as a common factor, all of us ending up there mostly via a DJ Sparky who found us in other cyber worlds.  We all

hang out at Sparky’s…

I totally met Michael Nesmith and I didn't pass out

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
