Howdy folks!
After 15 great years of singing, writing and touring with Daryll-Ann; in my humble opinion, a great outfit and a period of my life I look back upon with great pride. Although I loved the music we made as Daryll-Ann, I felt that I'd never be able to explore the rich history of music that inspires most of us to create a 'sound 'of our own within the confines of Daryll-Ann. Without hurting anyone's feelings I wanted to be free to explore the ever growing repertoire of sounds filling my head. These were not Daryll-Ann songs, these were Paulusma songs, and reluctantly, I chose to follow those sounds.
There is a whole rich history of music that I've only discovered over the last ten years, and it is that history (Robert Johnson to Love to the Fairport Convention, back to James Brown on to Sly and the Family Stone, a long and amazing journey with Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, the Jefferson Airplane and over to the MC5 and you get the idea) that I had not explored when I started playing and writing. It is an amazing tapestry that makes my mind explode with musical ideas and a passion to make my own sound and share it with anyone willing to take the time to listen.

I don't want my music to be labelled, I want it to be fresh with the happiness and pleasure that all great music of any genre imparts to those that hear it. I'd like to take the audience on a trip. A trip of the possibilities of live music where the performers and the audience share an experience that is both personal and exhilarating. That is my guiding star these days; Both for me as a writer and performer and for my audience.
I've assembled a group of musicians that share this ideal with me. We consider ourselves a band in the loosest sense of the word. We band together to create a musical experience, that is enriched by the personal contributions of all involved. I've discovered that the best music was always made by people with a passion to explore the possibilities of music making in an ensemble where there is a common idea that is then bounced back and forth between the musicians culminating in a total far greater than the parts.

It is my goal to create that idea, to give it some sort of blueprint, roadmap, what-have-you, and let the community of musicians I play with build it into something organic, alive with the possibilities of greatness, while skimming the surface of dismal failure. It is in taking this chance that I feel my musical ideas can be presented in a way that retains the freshness of all the great music of the past and endows it with a power of the present.

Before i get carried away too much in explaining where i stand at this moment in time, i'd like to mention my ongoing cooperation with Eindhoven based Clashing Egos, my electronic outlet. Very nice. Different cookie though. New record soon. And also, still writing music for commercials and the occasional documentary film. Keeps me fresh 'n cool.
