A nice rule of thumb for this group: Extended reviews/analyses should be posted on the Message Board, and shorter reactions/opinions should be posted on the Comment Wall. Otherwise, Anarchy Rules!

"That's nitpicking, isn't it?"-Nigel Tufnel's rebuttal to being read a particularly scathing review of Spinal Tap's Intravenus De Milo album.

Discuss, Debate and Dish on the Message Board!

Thomas - maybe your gut is right and it's not that good as it was hyped by others?

Just got Jackdaw4 "The Eternal Struggle For Justice" off of recommends from Not Lame. There are some nimble arrangements within, but the tone of the album isn't playful at all. I've read many comparisons to Jellyfish, but I'm struggling to find the tunes. Is this Willie Dowling's "difficult third album"? Do I need to go back and buy his first two cds, then evaluate this album in context?

Really? Well they have a rich body of work, some 13 Albums of sublime country-rock with pop overtones and beautiful harmonies. From Missouri, so Southern, yes, but not at all like Molly Hatchett (I'm glad to say), more like Poco or early Pure Prairie League and certainly one of the very best of the genre. With 4 or 5 great songwriters and singers their uncomplicated organic music is a treat for the ears.

This is Jackie Blue their biggest hit and still gives me the prickles 35 years later:

From the Brit TV Prog Old Grey Whistle Test (in concert) or try this definitive studio version from their 2nd album:

Wow Ozark Mountain Daredevils-that's a group that has completely escaped me. Are they Southern Rock? I always equated them with Molly Hatchett (an aside-I once saw Marshall Crenshaw doing a great version of "Flirting With Disaster" with Mitch Easter on guitar!)

I dunno if it's nitpicking, but it certainly seems like a good idea Tom. Currently I'm rediscovering the Ozark Mountain Daredevils on remaster. The sound is mostly blistering and these babies have held well. Additionally many have extra tracks. Get them directly from the band themselves.

Interestingly the bottom of their news page here warns about some shoddy product you should not buy. Very useful and as one who bought the atrocious so called remaster of Don't Look Down on River Records I can vouch that it's a cash in you should avoid like the plague. Furthermore buying direct from the band is always my favoured way of buying music these days of the 95% disappearance of independent Record Shops.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
