Mine would have to be Jimmy Cliff, the first time that I saw him, in a small theater in Port Chester, NY. Jimmy's band for that tour was comprised of gristled Old reggae veterans and they rocked. I…Continue

All I know is he's on a great Lover's Rock comp that I've owned for years-Reggae Greats: Strictly For Lovers. Highly recommended!

In the UK you can find them for about £5-6 these days. I have quite a few now. There's a fair bit of repetition among the various sets ... but there's enough original material on most to make them worth while. My favourite is the Rock Steady Rarities Box

Anybody collect the Trojan Box Sets series? They are 3 discs each and usually the price of a regular 2 disc set or cheaper. No liner notes or photos though.

I wonder if, to Jamaican youth, reggae is considered old people's music, like the way rap fans view early soul music

I love all of the old masters, especially Bob and Peter. For me, it is hard tog et too interested in new reggae artists. I listen to the classics over and over because I do not care for dance hall and the new roots reggae lacks the same political edge. When Bob and Peter sing about the politics of oppression and struggle for equality it comes from an authentic place that is hard to find in today's reggae music. Actually, now that I am thinking about it, I guess Ziggy and UB40 are my favorite modern reggae acts.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
