Heikki- thanks for posting the Maxophone clip. I just downloaded the album from iTunes and loving it. I don't have a deep Italian Prog collection, but I've got some of the classic stuff like Le Orme, PFM, Banco, Il Belleto Di Bronzo, Locanda Delle Fate. Still trying to find stuff by Ossana that doesn't cost a fortune...

Newbie here. If you're into Yes then I highly recommend checking out a new band from Sweden called Moon Safari. Very melodic writing with stacks of Beach Boys-esque harmonies. Also, the latest release by UK's Big Big Train is not to be missed and features ex-XTC guitarist Dave Gregory.  Cheers!

Was the Beatles Sgt. Pepper and the Beach Boys Pet Sounds the beginning for progressive rock?

For sure you knew but PFM is not the only prog band to come out of Italy. Still the have this on vinyl.

Oh, and yes Porcupine Tree are the best thing going in prog right now. With a close 2nd to Opeth...IMHO..

I just listened to King Crimson's-In The Wake of Poseidon for the very first time in my life...WOW! Listening to side two made me soooo freaking nervous. Strange...It reminded me of the time I decided to use Extasy...I fealt very uneasy and knew it was a mistake. (long time ago folks, I no longer use narcotics) However that feeling from a piece of music was very exciting. Just awesome is all I can say.

Pete, I don't know how I managed to miss Marillion but I had never heard of them until a few weeks ago and a friend of mine on the Klaatu mailing list mentioned them as a great prog band. I found a cd of theirs and love it.

I totally met Michael Nesmith and I didn't pass out

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
