Roy, I saw Voivod in January 1990 headline over Soundgarden & Faith No More(a club show BTW). Some of The Mars Volta's songs remind me of 'nothingface'.

Haven't tried out any or the "new" prog, still a classic fan listening to Yes, Genesis, PFM, etc. Saw Dream Theater open for Rush a few years back and didn't care for them.

Any VOIVOD fans?

Where do Lindisfarne and Curved Air fit in? Rennaissance?

PFM .. hilarious.. I was just listening to that album on the weekend in the car!

Not prog, but my brother saw Babe Ruth last week in Ottawa; said the chick can still belt pretty good!

Spent last weeekend plowing thru the Gentle Giant box .. some of it made me laugh: so over the top or as critics of the day used to say: "pretentious" (!!) .. however, I enjoyed it immensely as well, as the band's viruousity is obvious.
I saw them a few times in the 70's and they never failed to amaze me: how they coudl recreate the sound in a live setting. Fantastic musicians all. To be a part of a 15,000+ crowd all pumping to that music is a testament to their ability to connect on a broad scale with music that is challending at best.
What a band.

Ah, you cant beat prog... It has the power to enlighten, inspire, cheer you up, infuriate in equal measures! My first prog album was Drama by yes, closely followed by 2112, then just about everything I could afford! I managed to see most of my fave bands, but sadly cant afford to these days, unless its a smaller one, like Marillion (bless em, seen em on every tour since 86ish!)
I like to use prog type keyboard noises in the music I make, even though its not prog, or power pop maybe? But theres nowt like a moog or mellotron, or a B3 at full tilt!

I am amazed that somehow I made it through life listening to music without categorizing it. I simply looked, more accurately listened, for what I liked and called it good. Apparently I have liked Prog Rock for a long time. Rush, Yes and King's X have been favorites since I was about 14 or 15 years old. I'm sure there are other bands I like that are considered Prog but I would have to look to define them. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Good to be in the company of some fellow Prog fans...

Thoroughly enjoying revisiting all my Van Der Graaf Generator albums at the moment...Nice to see a mention of Hatfield & The North as well...great band.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
