Power Pop In The Mainstream

Started by Scott Larson. Last reply by maximum jack Jan 7, 2012. 31 Replies

Power Pop is a genre unto itself, however every now and then a mainstream music artist will dip their toes in its effervescent pool of hookyness.  My challenge to you is to make a list of mainstream…Continue

I posted a CRY! video a few months back in this very thread.  Wish I lived closer, I would be there.  Maybe they'll hit Atlanta . . .

Anyone love The Cry! as I do?  If you are within driving distance, my OH buddies and I have booked Portland. OR power pop sensations The Cry! -- they are coming to Cedars Lounge in Youngstown, OH on June 9th! Be there!

First, not obvious from the post, this is the entire disk streamed for your listening pleasure.  And into about song four....that is pretty fine.

Does anyone like this one as much as I do?

Len Price 3-Pictures!  Influences so thick (Records, Joe Jackson, and the Jam) but who cares?   Let's rock!

Comment by Stan Schwieger on March 31, 2012 at 9:30am

Oh, how about another from The Len Price 3?  (Why not?  Isn't excess always better?)

Phil Brown of the Records?  Do you have a link handy?

Comment by Richard Rossi on February 4, 2012 at 6:26am

Prayers for Phil Brown's friends and family. Phil passed away Thursday.

While I thought that The Breakdowns' The Kids Don't Wanna Bop Anymore was one of the top ten records of last year, I can't help but think it could have been better. Their previous CD led me to believe they were either going to go in a direction more Plimsouls-ish. Instead, they opted to head towards the Ramones.

I'm not complaining, mind you. I think it's a great CD. I just wonder what if....Am I alone in that thought?

A review of The Allman Brothers Band -One Way Out-

This is one of the finest books that I have read in a long time. This book is fascinating and doesn’t let up. Alan Paul’s well documented history warts and all on the Allman Brothers Band is a fascinating and reverting account told by not only the band members but by the people that have been a part of the band and their…See More

Johnny Cash - The Sun Years -1954-1958

When the barriers that separated pop and country music began to crumble in the wake of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash was one the first young country artists to take a place in the pop charts. Ironically, as hillbilly music slicked itself up in search of a wider market. Johnny Cash, broke through with a sound that was so sparse and under -produced that it must have seemed anachronistic even to the more conservative elements of the Nashville establishments. Johnny Cash was born in the remote rural…See More
