Power Pop In The Mainstream

Power Pop is a genre unto itself, however every now and then a mainstream music artist will dip their toes in its effervescent pool of hookyness.  My challenge to you is to make a list of mainstream…Continue

Just a short note to recommend Bruce Brodeen's Power Pop Prime Vol. 7 book. I hesitated initially, thinking that I was paying for reviews and recommendations I used to read for free.  But having it in book format, where it can be perused at leisure has made them easier to absorb without the click-click-click of the mouse, going from screen to screen. I much prefer this, and find its permanence a very attractive feature.  Yeah, you have to do a bit of searching online to find sound samples (if they exist) but loading Bruce's snippets, one at a time became tiring as well. I'm only on page 5 of the reviews and have already bought 3 CDs!  The CD that comes with the book has some great cuts as well. Thanks, Bruce!

Can't wait for tonight....I'm seeing/hearing Peter Case at Triad Stage. Should be a great show. Although I liked "Wig" alot, I'm hoping he does a song or two from this outtakes disc of a few months back. It had some great stuff on it. Anyway, if you're anywhere near Greensboro NC tonight the show is at 8!

Fun Facebook group for power pop fans - they mostly post power pop YouTube leads but it uncovers some very rare rare and unknown power pop gems.  It's called:  Power Pop Lovers Gather Here...http://www.facebook.com/groups/25201309399

Just got the new Red Button CD...outstanding. For what it's worth, here are my faves so far in 2011:

1) Genuine Fakes - striped album

2) Popfilter - Pop This

3) Smithereens - 2011

4) Red Button - As Far as Yesterday Goes

5) Peter Case - The Case Files

6) Mike Ruekberg - Acromony and Cheese (previously released material)

This from John Wicks of The Records:

John Wicks, lead singer of The Records and co-writer of the hit songs Starry Eyes and Hearts In Her Eyes, has an idea he'd like to share.
For the entire summer, John will be posting a free, rare demo or outtake every week on the band's Facebook fan page. Starting June 13 go
to www.facebook.com/TheRecordsFeaturingJohnWicks, "like" the page, and you'll be treated to that week's feature outtake or demo. Most if
not all of these cuts have never seen the light of day and promise to be a real treat, both for those familiar with Wicks' work as well
as those who just dig good, melodic pop of the highest order. Eventually some but not all of these tracks will appear on an upcoming
CD release, but the only way to make sure you hear them all is to check out John's fanpage. Go to
www.facebook.com/TheRecordsFeaturingJohnWicks
and click "Like", refresh your browser, and the mp3 will be available to you...FOR FREE. Check out The Records' main website at
www.johnwicksandtherecords.com for news, tour, or any other additional information about the band.

Thanks in advance for anything you care to post about this summertime special feature. Please let me know if you have any
questions or if there is anything else I can do for you.

Best,
John and The Records

Joe, I really appreciate. I do have a copy but the singer of the Names' song Why Can't It Be? would like to have a physical copy of that CD for his personal files.
