Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

At the risk of being crass and materialistic (which I am) I'd like to ask for some help in locating a couple of songs.  I have been trying to locate the songs listed in Chapter 9 (100 More Cool Cuts for Pop People) of John Borack's Shake Some Action.  Thus far two songs have escaped me and I have run out of search ideas.

#52 Grass-Show I Stole Your Girl Away

#72 The Fad The Fad Theme

I can't even figure out which of the several bands called The Fad I should be searching for.

Anyway, if anyone out there could give me some clues as to where I could search for these songs it would be greatly appreciated.

I know Swede pop pretty well and have many hundreds of different bands in my collection, but this one does not ring a bell off hand. Best place to locate, David is thru Luke Jackson, who is a great pop musician by the way, at this web site for Swedish pop - he's the foremost expert on SwedePop that I've ever come across:

Thank you!
This is probably The Fad you're looking for, From AMG:

Biography by Alex Henderson

Sporting a ‘60s-like mod look, the Fad are among the many bands that came out of New York City's neo-garage rock scene of the early 2000s--a scene that has also given us bands like the Blam and the well known Strokes. Many of those neo-garage outfits have come from Brooklyn, and that Big Apple borough is also the home of the Fad--a rockin' yet melodic and tuneful trio that brings a lot of ‘60s influences to the table, including the Who, the Beatles, the Kinks, the Animals and the Rolling Stones (especially their early recordings). None of the members of the Fad (who shouldn't be confused with the female pop-rap group JJ Fad) were alive in the ‘60s; John Laurence (lead vocals, guitar), Michael Pisano (bass, background vocals) and Anthony DeCarlo (drums) were all born in either the late ‘70s or early ‘80s, and the New Yorkers were all in their late teens or early 20s when the Fad was formed in the early 2000s. Nonetheless, their affection for ‘60s garage rock and power pop is evident, which isn't to say that all of their influences are from the ‘60s. The Fad have also claimed the Jam--a famous British punk/new wave band of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s--as an influence. And that affection for punk and new wave isn't atypical of New York's 21st Century neo-garage scene; typically, rockers in that scene are the sort of people who will listen to the Kinks or the Beatles one minute and the Jam or the Romantics the next. That scene has treasured melodic artists who make hooks a priority, which is why the Fad fit right in. In 2002, the Brooklyn residents recorded their self-titled debut EP, which New York's independent Lo-Fi Records released in early 2003.

That worked out pretty well. Luke didn't have any copies of the single but he did have an mp3 version and sent me that. Thanks again for the tip. Now for The Fad. So far I have found bands from...

1960s Austin (garage)
1980s Philadelphia (new wave) wore Star trek uniforms when onstage
2000s New York (power pop) Lo Fi records
2000s New York (ska/punk) Bankshot! Records

So far I haven't found which one if any did The Fad Theme
I saw the Philly The Fad in college in 1983 or 1984. Roommate was from Philly. I even have flyers for them, which were very Jetsons-like. Mod for sure.
Thanks for the response Wally! If this is The Fad I'm looking for they recorded The Fad Theme before signing with Lo Fi Records. I e-mailed the company and asked. I'm leaning toward the Philly group.
Thanks for starting this tread, I was about to start something similar. I'll throw in a couple that I've been looking for forever.

The 1996 "Candy Butcher's" album on Blue Thumb. Mike Vola's website says that this is available as an mp3 download from his MySpace page, but I can't find it. Btw, Mike Voila and Kelly Jones (if you don't have her album SheBANG! stop what you've doing and get it now) have a new EP available on mikeviola.com.

RF & the Radar Angels - Picture of Linda - #128 in John Borack's Top 200 Power Pop Albums list from Shake Some Action. In an obsessive mulit-year quest I've been able to collect 199 of 200. This is the only one I'm missing.

You mean Candy Butchers "Live at La Bonbonniere [EP]" from 1996?

It has these songs:
1 Bells on a Leper
2 California Girl
3 Cupid Complained to Venus
4 Till You Die
5 Canned Hunt

I have that disc - I can rip it for you if you need it.

Let me know.

Thanks Ming, but that's not the one. There was an album just called "The Candy Butchers" that came on Blue Thumb in 1996.

Anyone out there have the album by Thrush, featuring Phil Solem of The Rembrandts fame?

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
