I've always been a fan of the Ohio scene of the '60s -- the Dantes, Fifth Order, Rebounds, Edicates, Grayps, Lemon Pipers, Tony & The Bandits, Choir, Baskerville Hounds, Thee Young Generation, etc. etc. Anyone else?

Cincinnati, OH (well, Kings Mills, actually) representin' here...

Any "local" bands anybody wants to tout? Some of my faves are Dayton's "Captain of Industry", Cincy's "You, You're Awesome" and "Bad Veins", Columbus' "Happy (Harold) Chichester"...

From Evansville IN. > Cincinnati OH. > Boulder CO. > Shelbyville KY. and back to Evansville IN..... yeah well Cincinnati had it going on music wise upper Vine and the Clifton area back in the early 90's was hoppin'. Boulder was as expected, fun and full of music. Shelbyville KY., well we had My Morning Jacket for a bit, but Louisville KY. (36 miles away) kept things going with a nice music scene! Full circle we are back to Evansville IN. What can I say? Evansville is not devoid of music or bands for that matter. We have em', and quite a few good ones. The fact of the matter is it's not much of a "scene" we all don't work together as much as in other places I have lived. Why is this? I just don't know? Though it seems to go in cycles. We get together and do something on Earth Day or in the summer with the local bands a few times a year but not as often as we could. Don't get me wrong we have bands that go out of their way to gather musicians for mini festivals and weekend "Bandaroos" and I commend them(you's guys know who you are) Oh the days of yore, when the grass was greener and we were all just a little bit younger.... ;-)

North Central Ohio chiming in here... if you're ever half-way between Columbus and Cleveland, I'm your power pop stop! Tonight my acoustic duo, dr. simple, will be playing some Owsley & Jellyfish and maybe "Under the Light of the Moon" by the Merrymakers at a backyard party.

I'm from Dayton, OH, now live in Florence, KY. The local music scene seems much better in Dayton, but all the really great bands come to Newport, KY, which is right around the corner, so although the local scene is kinda dead here, at least we get some fairly big national-level bands come through!

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
