Perhaps there's a way to fund tours and band promotion in a Kickstarter fashion instead of getting advances from labels.

Pretty interesting stuff going on with The Church and their current label, Second Motion Records.  Apparently, even established artists get screwed.  Check out the story, including a later recanted Facebook post from Steve Kilbey here:

Debra, I am in a Facebook group called Oz Pop Patrons...maybe you can join and ask there-don't know if you frequent Facebook. Just found out Hurricane Fighter Plane (I'm pretty sure you've heard of them already) broke up...really want to find their ep on hard copy...

There's been a lot of good reissues over the past year or so...

Verlaines, Rowland S Howard, Living End, Cosmic Psychos, etc.

No not really, I frequent a couple of message boards, but nothing Australian specific.  I found out about this band, merely because it was a new release that someone recommended.  I didn't find out till after the fact that they were Aussies.

Hi Debra, one of my favorite albums of the year is from an Australian act.  Have you heard Royal Headache?  I think the self-titled album came out last year in Australia, but got a domestic release here in the States a few months ago.  Here's my favorite track:
