Perhaps there's a way to fund tours and band promotion in a Kickstarter fashion instead of getting advances from labels.

Pretty interesting stuff going on with The Church and their current label, Second Motion Records.  Apparently, even established artists get screwed.  Check out the story, including a later recanted Facebook post from Steve Kilbey here:

Debra, I am in a Facebook group called Oz Pop Patrons...maybe you can join and ask there-don't know if you frequent Facebook. Just found out Hurricane Fighter Plane (I'm pretty sure you've heard of them already) broke up...really want to find their ep on hard copy...

There's been a lot of good reissues over the past year or so...

Verlaines, Rowland S Howard, Living End, Cosmic Psychos, etc.

No not really, I frequent a couple of message boards, but nothing Australian specific.  I found out about this band, merely because it was a new release that someone recommended.  I didn't find out till after the fact that they were Aussies.

Not familiar with the band. Unable to watch the video at the moment as I'm on the iPad at the moment. I will check out the video later today when I am on my laptop. Appreciate the response. Do you have favorite places to find upcoming Australian bands?

Hi Debra, one of my favorite albums of the year is from an Australian act.  Have you heard Royal Headache?  I think the self-titled album came out last year in Australia, but got a domestic release here in the States a few months ago.  Here's my favorite track:

Ages since I have been here. Anyone have any recent recommendations? I highly recommend Even's CD from 2012.

Long-time Flying Nun favorites The Bats released their eighth LP Free All the Monsters this past Sunday. Austin Town Hall has the title song posted here. Below is the video for the recently released second single, "In The Subway."

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
