Cold Beer--HELLO!

Comment by Stan Schwieger on October 3, 2011 at 9:55am
I did, and found it fascinating.  Good to know that those that share my German Heritage fought against Prohibition....I thought the most interesting fact was that the "dry" faction used World War I (against the Huns!) to discredit the German "wet" faction--in that beer brewers were "Hun" Sympathizers.

Did anybody watch Ken Burns prohibition tonight? It was very interesting, part 2 is tomorrow.

Modern Drunkard was awesome! I gave my Brother-in-law a gift subscription one year and he loved it! Is the mag still around?

Are there any good bars in Manhattan with a good cd jukebox? I remember a place called the village idiot and the scrap bar, but I am not sure that is there anymore? Somebody help me.

Shiner for cooking! AB-SO-LUTELY. Here's a tip if yr a margarita fan(which I am). Make it how you like, usually - I do like a small splash of orange juice w/ whatever my core mixers are but this is KEY, imho. A healthy splash of - no offense to Shiner - cheap beer. Macro-beer. NO Micro, hoppy stuff. Just flat-lined beer(I tend to add Miller GEniune Draft but Shiner - bring it on).

This does a nice balancing to some of the edge and tart that a marg can have and is unpleasant for many. It works. Try it with - then result. REport back. But I swear by it.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
