Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Which statement best describes your approach to staying healthy?

1. Everything in moderation. I have fun, but not too much fun.

2. My body is a temple - I work out religiously and eat only healthy foods

3. Whenever I have the urge to exercise, I lay down until it passes.

4. Screw moderation, I have a good time all the time.  It's worked for Lemmy and Keith Richards, right?

I'm a combo of 1 and 3. I have fun avoiding exercise, but not too much fun.

I'm kind of somewhere in the middle.  My approach consists of:

1. No needle sharing.

What?!  I'm diabetic.

2. Drink a 300 cups of green tea per day.

Sometimes I fall short of my goal.

3. Exercise.

But only when I absolutely have to.

4. Get plenty of sleep.

At least four hours per night.  If possible.

I'm pretty much a 1 who aspires to be a 2 but secretly wishes I was a 4.

Good answer.

I've become #1 through a lifetime of #4.  #2 will never work for me & I don't go out of my way to participate in #3.

Mostly #1, although sometimes moderation is the average of two extremes. As Charles Bukowski said, "The place to find the center is at the edge."

Physical activity keeps sane as well as healthy, so also a little bit of #2. Less of a temple and maybe more of a casual, inner-city storefront church.

As an aging rocker, the one aspect of health I'm very passionate about is protecting what's left of my hearing. I've done enough damage already. I don't club/gig/practice unless I'm plugged.

One of the benefits of one's personal mortality becoming a real thing as opposed to an abstract concept (which is was for me until fairly recently) is that you get much more motivated to fix what's wrong and protect what you've got, hearing included.

That said, if you ever see me drinking a low-carb beer, shoot me.

Yes to this.  Many younger musicians succumb to the "If it's too loud, you're too old" mentality, but I'm happy that in my band of aging Indie rockers everyone wears earplugs.

I can't imagine life without music and no doubt a lot of the dudes cruising with the window-rattling subwoofers will have to learn sign language in a couple decades.

Well, let's say point 1 for me is nonsense since you must describe what "moderation" is; maybe for me moderation is drinking only 4 beers while you consider healthy drinking only 2... Anyway, honestly i don't think this point can apply on me, i believe excess can be good sometimes for your mind or even your body, especially with foods, and this leads me to point 2: here in spain the food is always healthy heheh, and of course my body is a temple, i provide him with the finest whiskey and porto wine and not the cheapest ones...

For the exercise, i'm a dying basket player, i play whenever i have the oportunity, and also tennis but not as much as i would like; but i consider it essential for mind and body...

(OMG, i'm the black sheep of the tribe...)

Worked out well for him!  :)

Well.  There is always this.
