Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Whats your favourite musical auto biography or biography you have read?

We all have that artists auot biography's or biography's we have read about who's story was so riveting you couldnt put it down. It would be great to hear everyones opinions on what they think is the best one they have read. For me so far unequalled is Sex, Thugs and Rock 'n' Roll by Billy Thorpe. His story was fascinating and showed the sixties in all its rock and roll glory. From mad sexcapdes to run ins with thugs from the sydney underworld to the loss of a close friend this book is fast packed from start to finish. Billy is such a great story teller he makes you believe he was the biggest musical artist in australia at that time which wasnt necessarily the case. Considering he doesnt even rank as one of my favourite artists yet the book leaves Slash by Anthony Bozza and Scar Tissue (Anthony Keidis) by Larry Sloman in its shadow, both artists of whom I am a fan shows how much I rate this book.

Crystal Zevon talking about her book about Warren. Lovd this book. She refrences WZ's time in Aspen. Can you imagine a better duo than Hunter S and Warren Z hanging out..talk about Lawyers, Guns and Money.

BlackNight by Jerry Bloom- It gets very close to the mystic of ritchie Blackmore

The new Autobiography by Dave Mustaine is fantastic. "Chapter and Verse" about Genesis is also full of lots of interesting stories and fights within the band...

Actually 2:
Buried Alive-Janis Joplin

No One Here Gets Out Alive-Jim Morrison

Has anyone read Kristin Hersh's memoir, Rat Girl? I've seen it at a local bookstore and am curious to pick it up.

Mike Barnes - "Captain Beefheart" the biography . Brilliant view of a brilliant artist.

Though i'm pretty curious about the newly published book from John "drumbo" French. To read his view

and take on the man would be the best insight i guess...

And ofcource - "our band could be your life" by Micheal Azzerad.

Though i'm looking fwd to a book that*ll cover Minutemen and Minutemen only...

Have the newly released Husker book - haven't read it yet though - hope it's good....

Not a fave..,but the life of a "band aid"

I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie  Pamela Des Barres

On my winter reading list for the coming Nebraska snows

Just Kids authored by Patti Smith about her life with artist Robert Mapplethorpe.

Hands down...  Without You:  The Tragic Story Of Badfinger.

Dave Mustaine  A Life In Metal. Brilliant.

Not long finished reading Motley Crue's 'The Dirt' after seeing all the good reviews it got. What a book. Be hard to top that. I dont mind some of their music but that was a read I couldnt put down. Sensational.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
