Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

(with your own money....)

Mine was "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" by Paul Simon.  A wonderful album, and a first record I can be proud of.  Bought it at my local Korvette's department store w/my allowance.

What's yours?

The Partridge Family Album.

There. I said it.

Excellent one!

Alice Cooper--Billion Dollar Babies.

My brothers were getting mad because I was buying 45's instead of an album.  My brothers were not to be disobeyed or a beat down would occur.  [I am sure that my mother never approved of "Mary Anne" or "I Love the Dead."]

I believe that I followed it up with Rick Derringer's "All American Boy."  Not a bad start.  (Probably my first wrong turn was Dan Fogelberg--"Souvenirs").  But that is for another list.

I bought my friends' aunts Kiss LP's she was selling - back around 1984. It was Kiss (self titled), Love Gun, Animalize, Peter Criss (Kiss - solo).
The first record I ever got was Queen's A Night At The Opera as a gift from a girl I hardly knew in my 3rd grade class.  I still have it today and still listen to it.  I have no idea why she gave it to me though.  The first one I bought though was ABC by The Jackson 5 - since I was fascinated with their cartoon TV show early Saturday mornings.  <iframe

The first two records that I bought were Deep Purple Machine Head, and Iron Miaden Powerslave.
I bought dozens of singles before 1967, but first album?  I remember going to a Walgreen's with my brother in 1967 with allowance money. I clearly remember him buying the Doors' debut and I'm pretty sure I bought The Monkees Headquarters. But my first certain recollection of seeking out an album that I heard on the radio was the first Chicago Transit Authority double LP.

Cream  - Disraeli Gears

That was the first album, after 2 45s....

Foundation-Build Me Up Buttercup, and Stones: Jumping Jack Flash/Child Of  The Moon

Endless Summer from The Beach Boys. It was a double LP compilation album, complete with poster. Literally wore it out.
I got 15 at once when I joined Columbia House Record Club. Cant remember what 15 it was. I know there was some ABBA in it.

The Beatles - Hey Jude

My first album was a mono copy of Sgt. Pepper. but my sister Dolly actually paid for it. May she rest in peace...she really started something for which there is no cure.
