Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

(with your own money....)

Mine was "There Goes Rhymin' Simon" by Paul Simon.  A wonderful album, and a first record I can be proud of.  Bought it at my local Korvette's department store w/my allowance.

What's yours?

I'm going to ignore the "with your own money" part, because I don't remember the answer.  The first record I ever whined  my folks into buying for me was The Beatles Second Album.  I took it home, put on side 1, and let it play four or five times until Mom made me turn it off.  Didn't get to listen to side two until the next day.
I'm gonna do an application of the subject matter. The first ever record (on a c-cassette, though) I bought (or rather my mom bought when she owed me i.e. I told her to buy) was The Rolling Stones by The Rolling Stones. Much later I also bought it on vinyl and much much later I bought it on CD, too.
Kiss-Destroyer...Ahhh the good ol' days. As a 12 yr old, I thought nothing would change!
Other than two band members and Bob Ezrin does not produce them anymore....what has changed?
Stan, I changed...lol. Along with my taste in music. I was such a Kiss fanatic I thought I would like no other band, ever. I do still like this lp and Kiss certainly made me love all things Rock!

I was like you Rusty, in that I loved KISS in the day.  The first three studios are creations of Wonder--how they did so much with so little talent on their instruments.  I still love their debut....Destroyer contained some really great songs (Detroit, Rock City is a classic).

Not sure if this counts:

Remember TV's "George of the Jungle"?  Hint: his cartoon tagline was "Watch out for that tree!"

Anyway, I sent in 7 Post Alpha Bits cereal box tops and got a "George of the Jungle" LP.   Dammed if I didn't bring that album in dozens of times as my grade school "show and tell".

Teachers really aren't paid enough.

First album purchased with my own money would have to be McCartney but I already owned many albums before then. First 45 purchased was She Loves You on the Swan Label. I still have it.

Ah yes, Remember it well, probably because I still have the original 45: R Dean Taylors "Indiana Wants Me":

You Tube, Indiana Wants Me

Released on the lesser known  division of Motown called "Rare Earth Records" in 1970

Rare Earth Records History

Thanks now I'll be singin and humin' it for the rest of the day !!

The first album i bought was saxon power & the glory. a great album and still one of the best albums out there.

My First Eva' purchase puts me in with those KISS fanatics like Rusty: KISS Alive II had just come out,

& I had to have that record! Sure , it may not have been as good as their first "Alive", but it sure was fun

to buy that piece of vinyl, take it home, & listen to it over & over again.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
