Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

What are the best opening riffs in Rock and Roll history?

When you hear the first few seconds of the song you know what it is and that it's a great tune.

a few examples

Dirty Water by the Standell's

96 Tears by ? and the mystrerians

Paranoid by Black Sabbath

Green Onions by Booker T and the MG's

Kick Out The Jams by the MC5

Electric Sweat by the Mooney Suzuki

Mississippi Queen by Mountain

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple

Awe heck i could just go and list all of ACDC's songs and they would nearly all fit the category.

Cheap Trick-He's A Whore

I have been  listening "God Save the Queen" by The Sex Pistols and it has a great opening riff.

Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum

Ronnie and Neil - Drive-By Truckers

Ain't That Peculiar - Marvin Gaye

Mr. Tambourine Man - Byrds

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
