A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Songs I am way too cool to like.. But dammit I do anyway

Come on, we are all ( virtual) friends here.

Spill your shame songs,

we'll never tell.

Small print disclaimer..we all know one person's shame song is another's real toe tapper.

I just ripped "Best of the Early Years" yesterday!

damn right

I can dig it!

weird formatting-I meant Glen Campbell...but yes, Isaac Hayes IS a Bad Mutha...

Again, not sure there is anything to be guilty about here.  This is one of the best songs ever written.

I guess I'll just go on record by saying I'm not a big fan of "guilty pleasure" threads.

EDITED to add the above statement was in regard to "Witchita Lineman" though the theme from Shaft is pretty great too.

Now Max Jack, not dissing anything..these are the songs that we love but maybe don't have the cool factor of other stuff we listen to.

It's only to you folks that I would confess that while I can pogo like it's nobody's biziness..(just need about 4 advils afterwards) I also get a little verklempy when I hear Witchita Lineman, the lryics, the melody, all pretty killer, the same for Dionne..and pleese do not get me started on Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66...

while we are just laying it out..sometimes in my car..driving alone I have been known to

"Scaramouche! Scaramouche!"...

the horror..

Hey, she's just talking about Shaft.  He's one bad mother....

Shut your mouth!

MaxJack, I think you'd agree that the same statement could be applied to "Walk On By" as well...

Yes!

This opinion has earned me some scorn elsewhere, but seriously....Freedy Johnston's cover of Wichita Lineman is awesome (also features the excellent Kevin Salem on guitar)

REM did a great version too.

Remember "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone?

I enourage you all to try to find and listen to the cover (from the 80s) by the Lone Cowboys.

It rocks the roof off, for real.

Lone Cowboys were sort of a 2nd tier, short-lived Flesh For Lulu/Mighty Lemon Drops type.

Gail, I was gonna give you a few demerits for dumping on Vertigo, but then I saw the rest your list....not guilty pleasures at all, just great tunes here, stop worring

Vertigo is the only decent tune on that turd of an album btw (How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb) but it's great.
