I'll kick things off with my report on what I bought during a recent trip to Las Vegas's fab Zia Records:

Indeed, you are not much of a prog guy, JB but you do know how to pick your spots and, for this Genesis-head, there are none better than those two - "Musical Box" is truly one of my all-time favorite songs and one I may have to frighten The Tribe with and film myself playing the 'ole air drums to.

I need to borrow that Danzig album - for some reason, that is one I've missed somehow. Happens to the best of us cool rockers, eh?

I just downloaded, that's right downloaded, the debut album from Billy Boy on Poison titled Drama Junkie Queen. I'm really lovin' it. It's very, what's the word, ROCK N ROLL!!! Check it out if you haven't already. I am happy with the purchase. As proof positive that it was great purchase my wife said that she hates it. She is not very Rock and Roll when it comes to music and yet very rock and roll in style. Odd but true.

I just picked up the latest Alejandro Escovedo "Street Songs Of Love". Produced by Tony Visconti and an absolute masterpiece. I think its as good or better than his last Real Animal. For your audiophiles - the recording sounds great too.

Also, the latest from Teenage Fanclub "Shadows" - on first listen it didn't grab me as their earlier stuff did. but with repeat listens its growing on me. they seem to have lost their overdrive pedals or record in an apartment where they can't turn their amps up past 4 because their isn't much in the way of crunchy guitar on it. I miss it. The songs are, for the most part, pretty solid though. My favorite TF album is Songs From Northern Britain - the songs on Shadows are mostly of the same calibre - just missing the guitar punch.

I hope the new Fannies has the same effect on me - not grabbing me after two listens, a few really good, classic TF songs, but a lot of it is dragging for me - reeking of ripping 3 or 4 songs and the rest off into the sunset.

Always give bands like these 3/4 listens, in different moods, though, so here's hoping!

Yeah, I felt the same way about the new Fannies... hasn't quite grabbed me yet. It's very understated. Haven't gotten to listen #4, though. That does not mean I won't go see 'em when they get here in October... far from it. Been too long since I've heard "Ain't That Enough" live!

New stuff - Got a load of lovely stuff from Oz, including the new Tame Impala disc "Innerspeaker", which is epic. Cream fans, check it out. Also liking the new Mess Hall and Vasco Era discs, which are much rawer. and a recent Wellingtons disc for my pop geek fix. I'm really enjoying the new Blitzen Trapper disc, too.

Was in Rochester NY recently and a friend took my son and I to HOUSE OF GUITARS, or HOG. I haven't been in a record store like this in years. I was besides myself, not enough time or money.
Been on a blues kick so picked up Joe Bonnamassa, Jimmy Vaughn's new one. Also Karen Elson, Paul Weller, Cooper Temple Cause and a few others that escape me now. My son picked up the wombats, Gorillaz, Radiohead Ep.
I never even made it into the jazz section.
I wish there were something like that around me, but then again maybe it is better.

I just got the new one as well and it hasn't punched me yet like Howdy did. I'm waiting on the new Justin Currie though and that should be great. Got a local musician that told me he will learn Be My Downfall by Del Amitri for me so I can hear it at his next gig. Also what is everyone's take on Hockey?

Teenage Fanclub's new one, Justin Currie's new one, Hockey, Gaslight Amthem, a new copy of Out of Body by the Hooters ( a severely underated Hooters cd ) just last week.
