I am also a huge kinks Fan. Recently I downloaded from eMusic the Young Veins and have really enjoyed the influence the kinks must have had on these guys.

Love The Kinks!
I bought the box set 'Picture Book' a while back and it has some great tracks from Muswell Hillbillies. How's the record? I'm currently on the hunt for Arthur and another CD copy of Village Green as the previous was eaten by the car's CD player.

Recently picked up some vinyl albums in superb condition from Terry who has a booth at the Super Flea Market here in Edmonton: The Kinks', "Muswell Hillbillies", Cross Country's s/t debut from 1973 (has the single, 'In the Midnight Hour'...loved this version when I was a kid...these guys used to be the Tokens in a previous life!), Greg Khin's debut release from 1975 on Berserkley, Popul Vuh's, "Music from the film Aguirre"...I've gotta get my hands on a copy of this film, it's supposedly a good one, The Incredible String Band's, "The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter", The Bee Gees' 1971 release, "2 Years On"...German import (the late 60s and early 70s recordings are keepers!) and Spirit's, "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus".

@Jean-Marie: The Nits: A good album bu tthis a band with many, many faces over 30+ years. I own everything they've done and most solo projects - I'm hardcore w/ them...

Their best of comps are good - I'm picky about them and find them spotty-ish but that is only because I have so many faves so it's impossible to please someone who has 30+ CDs from them....

that said find either HITS or DOPPELGOLD

For albums: start with finding TING and then ADIEU SWEET BAHNHOF

Then see how the band is hitting you.....

Bruce, "Strawberry Wood" is the first Nits album I've purchased. What other album from them would you recommand me next ?
Hey there! Sorry I messed up in my attempt to reply to Val's question...I'm new to this sort o' thing. This 1971 release is a great album which features some of Ray Davies' finest song writing. Although this recording is certainly softer than their very early work, it nevertheless displays a great blend of music hall, rock, blues, ballads and pseudo country. Mr. Davies...one of THE best story tellers, bar none, in musical history.
Heard the record and highly recommend it. Good drivin' tunes. Fast drivin', that is.

The Like, great new all girl band produced by Mark Ronson on Geffen. I know, I know--it's Geffen, but these girls rock out like nobody's business.
Also picked up Farrah and Field Music, both excellent.

Here are the records I purchased these last 2 months :
The Coral - Butterfly House
Kula Shaker - Pilgrim's Progress
Fyfe Dangerfield - Fly Yellow Moon
Farrah - Farrah
The Grip Weeds - Strange Change Machine
The School - Loveless Unbeliever
Ed Harcourt - Lustre
The Divine Comedy - Bang Goes the Knighthood
Pilot - Second Flight
The Black Keys - Brothers
Wondermints - Wonderful World of the Wondermints
Nits - Strawberry Wood
Field Music - Tones of Town
Field Music - Field Music
The Apples in Stereo - Travellers in Space and Time
Seth Swirsky - Watercolor Day
Love the Farrah - are they still putting out records? Seems like alot of their stuff is from across the pond.
Go the Not Lame home page - see top. ;-P www.notlame.com
FIELD MUSIC: Okay...Some know me as the kind 'o hyberbole 'n all - hazard of the trade w/ a place like NL but if I ponder here....this band might very well by my #1 favorite new band of this past decade. TONES is perfection. Every note - knees weak. But their entire output and the two solo projects....if one grades, nothing below an "A-" with everything they've done for my ears.

Great album! Love the '60's girl group sound. Listening to The Like's new one and The Young Veins back to back is fun.

I've been tracking down everything I can find by Rich Crook's band Lover! Just got his debut album in the mail today. Already have "Gathered In The Graveyard", "Lost In The Shuffle:The Singles Collection" and the "No Dreams Please" ep. If you like power pop, garage rock, or punk I think you would love his band (which is really a one-man band, since he plays just about everything himself). All have recently been added to iTunes if you want to check him out.

Also got The Love Me Nots "Detroit" cd this week.
It's been what, 33 years since I heard "Paper Roses" and now I can't get the song out of my head. Thanks CDC!

Was at the Goodwill in Wisconsin Rapids, WI and they had a ton of Osmonds LPs for sale. I picked up Donny Osmond "Alone Together" and Marie's "Paper Roses". Both in near mint condition! I buy alot of stuff like this mainly for the kitsch affect.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
