Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

OK, let's share some finds.

Here's how this will work:

1. Based on the brief description of what they like, recommend a new or fairly obscure artist to the person who posts right before you.

2. Then, post your own brief description of your favorite type of music and have someone hip you to a cool artist.

I'll start:

My favorite music is raw garagey/punky rock and roll with killer hooks and intelligent lyrics.

Whaddya got for me?

Dammit, Bard! Fairly obscure -- I'd recommend 4H Royalty's "Orbison Eyes" -- actually recorded in a garage -- with the hookabilty and intelligibility up for debate. Hardly any reverb, so watch out!

I like to hear nerds making music. Dan Reeder's "Havana Burning" makes me weep my pants in cursive.

So, Dan Reeder.

Try The Craftmatic Adjustables "Girl Talk"... self-released, but likely still available from Not Lame.
Alright, I'm off to check it out. What can I offer you? What are your tastes?
OK - 80s hard rock. Let's see.... How about these guys:

Tremendously fun live. Had 'em on my radio show -- 15 guys in one tiny studio. Really good dudes.
I love this idea, and want to start to kick start it again. I love "bubblegum" pop--the Rubinoos being the pinnacle of area. I love the Rubes because they have taken a very simple art form (Ain't much to "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy," not to depreciate its greatness) but have honed that pop edge (see also Nick Lowe/early Elvis Costello, Matthew Sweet, Kyle Vincent).

My only request--killer hooks.
Stan - Based on your acknowledged tastes I'd like to recommend for you Cherry Twister. Think early 70's avocado refridgerator ad crossed with a dry martini in a bar with red velvet walls with hipster turtlenecks abound and you're close. enjoy.

I believe my rock stars should look like rock stars and act like rock stars. they should not look like the guy who does my taxes. they should write lyrics inspired by great poetry, prose and literature. they should tell stories of broken hearts as well as broken bottles and if they sound like they've smoke 3 packs a day for 25 years while tinkling in a sad chord on a piano that's a win as well. faves include Tom Waits, Jellyfish, Hanoi Rocks, The Wildhearts.
OK, I think you'll dig these guys. From Australia.....

Darn Fine! I typically like the vocals not to be in the Bon Scott register in pop songs...but it works. Thanks!
Yeah, they're pretty cool. Saw 'em at SXSW and they rocked the joint. They have one song, called "Come Clean" that is essentially an homage to "Marquee Moon" (Television). About 8 minutes with kinds of twists and turns.
Jon, Heres what i got for ya

Dead Confederate Self titled EP

try "Tortured Artist-Saint" its loud, dirty and good lyrics about 6 + min (album ver) good stuff!!

Link to live perfomance:

for me i say something along the same line dirty, garage and big sounding like ie MC5, JSBX, HUM, RFTC... can be goofy, or a melon scratcher
Thanks Jon - looks like youtube vid can't really catch the dynamics of that band. gonna have to listen tot eh studio. but looks interesting.

for you, here's a 2 man band from Austin that kicked my ass at SXSW. Dirty and big -- yes, and yes. Black Sabbath meets ZZ Top.

Here's one for ya JB and Alcoff.
