A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

You know what I mean, not necessarily popular, though they might be.  "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel or "Waterloo Sunset" by the Kinks or "The Brides Have Hit Glass" by Guided by Voices are all good examples.

Mr. Jack:

Wonderful question and responses.

Question--you listed three songs that are "perfect pop songs" but in my pinhead, not that they aren't perfect, because that is in the eye of the beholder....(there are those who see perfection in Rascal Flatts...) but they don't come to my forefront as being "poppy."  Especially Solsbury Hill...so what where in your mind when you were posting this did you think it would head, and what other than your postings, comes the closest to being in your mine the perfect pop song?

Of the beaten path, Lindsay Buckingham when with Fleetwood Mac would always get one great "pop" song on their disks... on Mirage, this may be his pinnacle.

You don't necessarily think of Aimee Mann when you think of pop songs, but this is one of my all-time favorites.

IMHO, the Ramones wrote reams of songs that were just pop songs on Steroids...and this one from Road to Ruin is a good example.

Good call on the Ramones, I'm surprised nobody mentioned them yet.  I'll single out "My My Kinda Girl" from 1983's underrated Subterranean Jungle (but really, there are probably dozens of "perfect pop songs in their catalog):

Choosing a Nick Lowe song is like the choice in Sophie's Choice (I will spare those who haven't watched that classic the spoiler alert), but this remains in my personal Top of the Pops:

If this is already on here...excuuuse me!

Well wait just a New York Minute.  This is THE perfect pop song.  Really.

by George IT IS!

Also written by Nick Lowe, but of course you Tribers probably knew that!

Max Jack..does the 1000th view get a free piece of pie or thier tires rotated..something?..if so? I am in!

Checking out this crew who are opening for the Black Keys here Aug 1..like! Getting fired up for this show.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
