Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Love music, love movies.  Love the combination of both.  Usually.

The obvious list includes the likes of "Jailhouse Rock" and "A Hard Day's Night".  The less obvious list?  "Burning Rubber" and "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", to name but two.  Somewhere in between we have Allan Arkush's "Get Crazy" and "Rock & Roll Highschool"

Your turn...

Not really musicals per say say but Wes Anderson movie sound tracks are always perfection.
the Royal Tenenbaums, The fantastic Mr Fox, Life Aquatic and Moon Rise Kingdom are movies for me that could be listened to with my eyes closed.

Yup, always eclectic selections in W. Anderson films.  "Rushmore" is a personal fave.  And that's just for The Creation - probably the most underrated '60s act ever...

American Graffiti

Detroit Rock City

Hedwig And The Angry Inch

Almost Famous

Just to name a few...

3 faves, not just soundtrack music, but the actual band playing live in the scene:

Tommy Keene and band doing their possibly best tune "Run Now" as the bar-band in the forgettable Anthony Michael Hall movie "Out Of Bounds"

The Feelies in Something Wild

The Plimsouls in Valley Girl (...in the bar, a few different times, including....awesomely..."A Million Miles Away"

I just watched Valley Girl a couple of weeks ago and they actually play "Million Miles Away" twice!

Also, how about Walter Hill's Streets of Fire?

Love High Fidelity

In addition to the tunes, great flashbacks to the best record store, Dustys Records, Kearney, NE

In addition to great Joy Division/New Order music featured in this film, there was also some Bowie, Velvets, Iggy and Kraftwerk on the soundtrack.  Great film.

Along the same lines:

This is a great one, I've mentioned elsewhere here at the Tribe:

The Grunge era doesn't get much love around these parts, but this movie's soundtrack was instrumental in defining the genre:

The soundtrack also contains the only song by Pearl Jam that I still love ("State of Love and Trust").

Had this on vinyl back in 79/80. Never saw the movie, but the soundtrack was great:
