Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Over the weekend, I peeked out my front window to see a curious sight.  My mailman was standing behind my Dodge truck, taking a picture of the tailgate with a digital camera.

I feared the worst - that he had backed his mail truck into my truck.  So I yelled to him from the front porch.  "Everything okay?"

"Yeah - I just wanted a picture of this." Turns out he just thought some of the stuff I had on the back of my truck was cool.

When I was a teenager, nothing was subtle.  Slobbering Pantera fan?  The logo was all over your locker, your jacket, your car and everything else you owned.  These days, though, I have kids.  The notion of kicking ass has to be communicated subtly - almost like speaking in code the kids won't pick up on.

I have a small Van Halen logo on the back window of my truck.  You wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it.  I also have a Flying Spaghetti Monster badge where most people would put a Jesus fish.  Again - unless you were looking for it, you'd probably not notice it.  I think this is what the mailman was photographing, but I'm not sure.

My buddy has a border around a room in his basement.  You need to look at it closely before you realize that it's an amalgamation of Led Zeppelin album covers.  His kids probably think it's just a bunch of paintings strung together, or they probably don't pay much attention to it at all.  Someone from our generation walks in, though, and it's an immediate conversation-starter.

What do you do to subtly communicate to the kick-ass masses?
