Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

Once again, I've put together my annual Yuletide Mix of interesting artists and songs, most (but not all) with a psych pop or power pop vibe. The 2012 edition features new bands such as The Sufis (great new psych pop from Nashville, much like The Paperhead) and The UFO Club (Christian Bland of the Black Angels and Lee Blackwell of The Night Beats) along with several long-time favorites. The "flow" is crucial in my opinion, so here they are, in an order that hopefully makes for an enjoyable listening experience:

1. The Well Wishers “Free? No” (from Dreaming of the West Coast)
2. Paul Weller “Around The Lake” (from Sonik Kicks)
3. Guided by Voices “Tyson’s High School” (from Class Clown Spots a UFO)
4. Jack White “Missing Pieces” (from Blunderbuss)
5. La Sera “Please Be My Third Eye” (from Sees the Light)
6. JEFF The Brotherhood “Mystic Portal II” (from Hypnotic Nights)
7. Sleigh Bells “Crush” (from Reign of Terror)
8. Secret Colours “Blackbird (Only One)” (from a free Austin Psych Fest Bandcamp download)
9. Moon Duo “Circles” (from Circles)
10. The Men “Open Your Heart” (from Open Your Heart)
11. The Spyrals “Lonely Eyes” (from The Spyrals)
12. Neil Young & Crazy Horse “Psychedelic Pill” (from Psychedelic Pill)
13. Baby Woodrose “Bullshit Detector” (from Third Eye Surgery)
14. The UFO Club “July” (from The UFO Club)
15. Ty Segall “Thank God For Sinners” (from Twins)
16. The Sufis “Where Did She Go?” (from The Sufis)
17. Woods “Is It Honest?” (from Bend Beyond)
18. Beaulieu Porch “Laminations Are Loaded” (from Beaulieu Porch)
19. The Soundtrack Of Our Lives “Busy Land” (from Throw It To The Universe)
20. MMOSS “Okay” (from Only Children)
21. Robert Pollard “No Tools” (from Mouseman Cloud)
22. The Apricot “Too Far Behind” (from A Forestful of Threes, 2011, Norway - still hasn't made it here)
23. The Galileo 7 “Not Gonna Miss You” (from Staring At The Sound)
24. Kontiki Suite “See You In The Morning” (from On Sunset Lake)

Got my hard copy in the mail, thanks Stu!

My pleasure - looking forward to your list as well.

Currently listening to the 2012 self-titled Sic Alps album as I type and thinking I should've included one of their groovy psych tunes on the Mix, but you just can't do everything in 79 minutes...

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
