A Global Army of Veteran Rockers
I have found with age (and a higher income) I want to "fill in the holes" in my collection, and typically want everything. My family graced me with some coin to spend on music--so the question is, what great box sets should one own?

I own several myself, mostly 60's/early 70's soul (Stax/Motown). However, after this post, I dug around and purchased the Complete Country Recordings of Ray Charles. I would probably sell a vital organ (or two) off to get a box set of everything Mr. Charles ever recorded. (My liver isn't much good anyway, so it would be the first to go.)
Now, as to a side question, why aren't the complete Tom Petty recordings boxed up?
Permalink Reply by maximum jack on January 1, 2012 at 2:28pm You would think there is a wealth of stuff that Playback only scratched the surface of. I remember being mildly disappointed when I was working at the record store and the Tom Petty reissues came out with ZERO bonus material. Maybe someday . . .

Permalink Reply by maximum jack on January 31, 2012 at 7:00pm Yeah, I worked at a Record Store for way too long. I'm also kind of a completist, so like I have the original digipak CD version of Guided by Voices Box, and the vinyl version and when they came out with a hard jewel case version. . . well, I had to have that too. Still haven't broken the seal on that one.

Permalink Reply by shermo on January 2, 2012 at 6:38pm Although I have a few I really like I cant go past Led Zeppelins 4 cd remasters boxed sets volumes 1 & 2. I only had to buy those and I had every song they produced in a studio. Favourite band, easy choice.
Permalink Reply by Heikki on January 9, 2012 at 3:55am Songs Of Yesterday is highly recommended even though you may wanna buy all the individual albums of Free as well as all related stuff :) There are at least some tracks not available anywhere else. http://www.amazon.com/Songs-Yesterday-Free/dp/B00004SRKB/ref=sr_1_1...
