Rock and Roll Tribe

A Global Army of Veteran Rockers

OK, massive Beach Boys fan here.  Just love the sound of THOSE voices.  No matter what.  All kindsa tributes/soundalikes out there.  The more "obscure" the better.  Immediately two spring to mind...

Firstly, this superb Lou "Lightning Strikes" Christie thing.  It was even played before Brian Wilson's "That Lucky Old Sun" premiere in LOndon in 2007 (I was there!)

Secondly, "American Eyes" by the Lilac Time from their debut album "Paradise Circus" from 1989.  However, inexplicably, this minor masterpiece can not be found on YouTube...

OK, your turn.

The Raspberries "Crusin' Music" is ripped from the BB playbook:

And how about fellow Triber Laurie Biagini:

Thank-you, Stan!

Thanks!

The Explorers Club's "The Grand Hotel" is the best new LP this year (so far) in my opinion.  Yes, even better than the BB's surprisingly spirited new one.

And then there's this....from a somewhat unlikely source (or perhaps not, given his lifelong Spector-fetish):

I think if one works at it hard enough, we could populate this discussion with songs that attempt to replicate BB harmonies or nick the drum outro of "God Only Knows"...The Grand Hotel is definitely an accomplished followup-one of the few 2012 releases I've purchased. Early stuff by The High Llamas had a distinct Pet Sounds vibe.

So Mike Nesmith. Yeah. WTF, right? Private, reclusive, mysterious for many years. A couple of years back, he got on Facebook and he posts long, winding tales about himself, his dogs, his home, his past, and a really lovely Mother's Day post last weekend. Photos go up. The whole thing. It's like he disappeared and then came back on his own terms. I didn't know how to take it. I'm a huge Monkees fan, no doubt. And, being a woman/girl of a certain age, I have a favorite and that favorite is Mike.…See More
